One of the Institute's main roles is to support the professional development of human resource capability, of which the Executive Development Programme (EDP) takes the centre stage. Delivered by a selected faculty of highly experienced academicians and experts in their areas, SHHBIDSS has remained committed to facilitating the program with the chosen faculty since 2008.

The three-month rigorous programme, which focuses greatly on public policy and management, aims at providing senior military and civilian officials with policy tools and analytical skills that are very much needed in today's world. The program also hopes to nurture leadership skills among the participants and strive towards the advancement of personal development.

Participants will also have the opportunity to listen to esteemed invited local speakers and are exposed to public policy in practice from different ministries through the educational visits; a component specifically named as the local content of the program. The component is hoped to provide a deeper understanding of Brunei Darussalam's strategic national environment, while also being aware of regional and global perspectives.
